A Virtuous Woman
Virtue etymologically initiated from the latin word (virtus), signifying manliness or courage.
It is a trait or quality deemed to be morally good and thus is valued and rated as a foundation of principle and good moral being.
From the widest perspective, virtue means the excellence of perfection of a thing.
Virtuousness of a woman
For a woman to bear that name virtue or regarded as a virtuous woman, she has to ascertain and be grounded in these categories of virtue....She has to be;
1.Intellectually virtuous
Intellectual virtue is a habit perfecting the intellect to elicit with readiness acts that are good in reference to their proper object like truth.The speculative intellectual virtues are wisdom,science,and understanding,art and prudence.
Perspectively,
- wisdom is the knowledge of conclusion through their highest causes.it requires and considers truth of the natural order according to the natural principle.
- Science is the knowledge of conclusion through their highest causes.she must be conclusive.
- Art- she ought to have that right method of external production in her.
- Prudence- Her conduct should be absolute
moral virtuous are those which perfects the appetitive faculties of the soul. it has to do with the ability and willingness of a woman to have a quasi-natural inclination to do a thing.
For a woman to be morally virtuous she has to indulge;
JUSTICE
justice is an essential moral virtue which regulates the relationship of a woman to others,it disposes them to respect the rights of others. The virtues annexed to justice are;
- Religion,which regulates her relationship with God,disposing her to pay due worship to her creator
- Piety, which disposes to the fulfilment of duties owed to parents and country
- Gratitude, which inclines her ability to be thankful for benefits received
This is what an individual voluntarily refrains from doing which entails not retaliating to violence and be able to forgive...
The subordinate species of temperance are;
- Abstinence,which disposes to moderation in use of food
- Chastity,which regulates the appetite in regard to sexual pleasures which also affects reproduction
- Sobriety,which inclines to moderation in use of spirituous liquors
- Humility, which restrains inordinate desire for one's own excellence
- Meekness,which checks her reactions to anger
- Continence,which refers to self control or holding back bodily movement
This causes woman to be brave when she would otherwise shrink because of dangers or difficulties
The virtues annexed to fortitude are;
- Patience
- Munificence
- Magnanimity
- Perseverance
Here, the woman realizes that finally she has a destiny to attain. this virtue is labelled theological because;
- they have God for their immediate and proper object
- they are divinely infused
- they are known only through divine revelation
- Faith
- Hope
- Charity
